You are not obliged to participate in a police interview beyond providing your name and address. That is not an admission of anything, and it is very often the right decision — particularly before you know what the allegation actually is.
The prosecution must prove every element of the charge beyond reasonable doubt. Our job at the outset is to identify which element is weakest and whether the evidence supporting it would survive cross-examination.
Call before the interview, not after. The advice available at that point is worth considerably more than anything we can do to repair an interview that has already happened.
What you say in the first police interview shapes everything that follows.
